Replacing your Lawn Chairs Webbing

We all have those web lawn chairs hanging around. You know, the foldable chairs with strips of vinyl webbing that you see people haul to soccer games, parks, and concerts. You might even spy one next to a neighbor’s pool. They’re also known as strap chairs. They typically have a lightweight tubular aluminum frame and they fold up to hang neatly on your garage wall.

I figure people like strap lawn chairs because they’re relatively comfortable, extremely affordable, and most of all, portable. But a lot of other options have appeared in the outdoor furniture market that seem to have slowly pushed web lawn chairs to near extinction. However, if you’re a die hard fan of these older chairs, don’t despair. There are ways to replace or repair your web lawn chairs.

Buying New

There are still some stores around that carry web lawn chairs, both in lounge and standard chair format. Here are a few options:

Buying Used

Check out local yard sales and second hand stores and you’ll find plenty of used web lawn chairs. Don’t expect them to be in pristine shape though. Most people did the same thing you did and kept their strap lawn chairs for years until they started to show signs of wear and tear. Make sure the aluminum frame is in good shape, and don’t worry too much about the webbing. You can repair the webbing on your chair pretty easily (and cheaply!) with a few supplies.

Repair Your Chair

If you have an older strap or web lawn chair that’s seen better days, you can repair, or totally replace the webbing on it. Make sure the aluminum is still in decent condition, because gorgeous new webbing doesn’t do much if the frame it’s on falls apart.
