The Steamer Chair is the Perfect Summer Lounge Chair

If you’re looking for the perfect place to sunbathe, read a book, or just take a nap, I highly recommend a steamer chair. The steamer chair is a summer lounge chair that was ubiquitous on older ocean vessels such as the Titanic. And like the Titanic, they’re the ultimate in luxury. Because steamer chairs are a throwback to 19th century deck furniture are almost always made from a wood. Since they were used on steamer ships, traditionally they were made from teak so that they were extremely resistant to the saltwater and weather. If you’ve ever been on a luxury cruise, you’ll know that these old style steamer chairs are still the preferred choice for luxury boats. These days you don’t need to go on a cruise to lounge in a steamer chair. They’re widely available in teak, eucalyptus, or even cedar. Steamer chairs are bit different from your standard pool lounge chair in that they’re curved to provide excellent comfort. If you purchase a wooden lounge chair such as a steamer or a chaise, remember to purchase the appropriate lounge chair cushions. You don’t want to get your chair home and then realize that you’re stuck lying on wooden slats! Make sure your cushions are made with a fabric that is resistant to UV damage, such as Sunbrella, so that your cushions will last as long as possible.
